Alpaca farm at the Goldener Stern

Those stopping at the “Goldenen Stern” on their way from Oederan to Freiberg will long remember its hearty Saxon hospitality. A visit to the private alpaca farm is equally memorable.

These cheeky New World camelids at the “Goldenen Sterns” have been delighting visitors since 2006. To start with, there were just three alpacas roaming the meadows. Today the herd numbers around fifty animals. White, brown and, increasingly, fine black alpacas are now to be found romping around.

Alpacas are fascinatingly curious yet peaceful animals. Many people are enchanted by these little characters.

The “Goldene Stern” team has succeeded in spreading their passion for these gentle New World camelids in the Oederan region. For many families, a trip to see the alpacas is a real treat.

Alpaca wool is one of nature’s finest fibres, next to cashmere and silk. The animals at the farm in Memmendorf are shorn once a year. The wool is processed in many different ways. Hand-made products are sold at the farm shop.
